1 Chronicles Chapter 27 (ESV)

25 Over the king’s treasuries was Azmaveth the son of Adiel; and over the treasuries in the country, in the cities, in the villages, and in the towers, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah; 26 and over those who did the work of the field for tilling the soil was Ezri the son of Chelub; 27 and over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; and over the produce of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite. 28 Over the olive and sycamore trees in the Shephelah was Baal-hanan the Gederite; and over the stores of oil was Joash. 29 Over the herds that pastured in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; over the herds in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai. 30 Over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite. Over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite. 31 All these were stewards of King David’s property.

32 Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, being a man of understanding and a scribe. He and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni attended the king’s sons. 33 Ahithophel was the king’s counselor, and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.

REFLECTION:

  1. 1 Chronicles Ch. 23-26 recorded David’s religious organization and Chapter 27 is a list of David’s political personnel. Here is a description of David’s government structure: the first section is the senior officials in charge of forestry and livestock (vv. 25-31); the next section is the courtier and the bureaucrats who assisted King David in ruling and administration (vv. 32-34). The Davidic Dynasty was firm and had important influence in the Middle East of its time. One of the reasons is the presence of God, while the other reason was a robust organization that strength cooperation and division of roles and responsibilities.
  2. God’s presence and grace are very important but our church has to break away from individualism and disagreement if we want to witness to the world today. We need to unite and exert our influence in order to change the world. Reflect how God’s power can work among the church congregation to generate a greater power for sharing the gospel.

PRAYER:

Pray for unity in the church to have a clear direction, a robust organization, and an effective operation. Ask God to raise up more fervent brothers and sisters in the church who will support and cooperate with each other in order to build up the house of God.
