    Psalm 138 (ESV)

    Give Thanks to the Lord

    Of David.

    1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
    before the gods I sing your praise;
    I bow down toward your holy temple
    and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
    for you have exalted above all things
    your name and your word.
    On the day I called, you answered me;
    my strength of soul you increased.

    All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord,
    for they have heard the words of your mouth,
    and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
    for great is the glory of the Lord.
    For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,
    but the haughty he knows from afar.

    Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
    you preserve my life;
    you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
    and your right hand delivers me.
    The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
    your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
    Do not forsake the work of your hands.

    REFLECTION:

    1. David called us to focus thoughts of God on His “name”, and His “word”. When we do, we learn to trust His love and faithfulness. And when God utters His Word, it should stimulate even the kings of the earth to praise Him.
    2. David had personally experienced God’s love and faithfulness as the Lord preserved him in many troubles. What David understood, and we need to appreciate, is that each of us is important to God. His love has made our lives meaningful by linking it to His eternal plan. We may not know now what His purpose in us is. Yet God does have a purpose to fulfill in the lives of each of us. To Him, we do count!
    3. Will you say with David the following verse as your prayer to God?
    4. “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.”

    PRAYER:

    Stay with God for a little longer.  Continue to converse with God and listen to what He wants to tell you.  Then write down any thought and/or prayer in your spiritual journal.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)

In January 2009, PGC started the “260 Appointments with God” Bible Reading and Devotion program. From September 2017, the program has a vision to help brothers and sisters do devotion and reading through the whole Bible in four and a half years starting with the Book of Genesis. The program was renamed to “Listening to God” in January 2020. Thank the Lord the first cycle finished with Revelation on March 25, 2022. From March 28, 2022 “Listening to God” began another cycle starting with Genesis. The order of the books is alternated between the Old and New Testaments. For details, please refer to Bible Reading and Devotion Book Sequence.

All participants can track their progress of Bible reading using the PGC Bible Reading Chart. PGC participants can also track their Bible reading progress online and query through the Bible Reading Record Query page. PGC participants who do not have an account should create an account according to the instructions in the Registration page. The Bible Reading Record Query will allow tracking of personal progress after logging in. Even without logging in, you can still use the Bible Reading Record Query for fast access of the devotion information.

May brothers and sisters listen to and obey God’s Word every day, and be the Lord’s disciples.
