“Unwavering Christian Marathon”

CHAIRMAN : ALEC CHENG
SPEAKER : MR ANDY CHAN
SCRIPTURES : HEBREWS 12: 1-2

Sermon Notes:

The author of the Book of Hebrews has drawn a racetrack as the backdrop in the beginning of Ch. 12. It is a life-long racetrack that is a marathon for everyone of us who are follower of Jesus Christ. This is a Christian Marathon.  The author has enumerated 3 different spheres in running this Christian Marathon effectively.

1.  Lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely*
2.  Run with endurance*
3.  Looking to Jesus*

* ESV

Discussion Questions:

  1. God has a purpose in your life (your racetrack).  Do you know what it is?
    -  What are your Dreams and Wishes?  Do they align with your racetrack?
    〉 If yes, how do they align?
    〉 If no, do you think these could be your “weight”?
  2. Have you ever struggled with things-to-do that seem alright to most people, but you have an itchy feeling inside you? Please share.
    - Do you think by asking the question “Is this helping me grow in faith?” rather than asking “What’s wrong with it?” is a useful guide to guide you through making a Godly decision?
    - Have you ever tried to discern God’s direction? Please share your discernment experience.
  3. In running the Christian marathon, which is more important to you between “getting the 1st place” & “finishing well”? Which one do you think God value more?
  4. In running the Christian marathon, has your faith ever clashed with secularity?  What did you encounter? Did you overcome it? What did you learn from it? How do you encourage others through your story?
