Sermon Notes:

1. Catholic theology teaches that it is proper to honour, but not to worship the saints, and Mary
   • They teach that it is fine to ask them to pray for you, or to pray to them, just as you ask brothers and sisters in the church to pray for you now
   • Saints serve as mediators, interceding between us and Jesus, or God the Father, so that the prayers of a righteous person are effective, and the saints in heaven have been sanctified
2. Scripture teaches us that it is improper to worship the saints, or Mary, and that venerating the saints bears all the outward appearances of idolatry

• • Praying to the saints deprives Jesus of his role as our mediator and diminishes the glory he is due
  • Relying on Mary as mediator between us and Jesus introduces a degree of separation between us and our saviour that is neither healthy nor necessary
