“Scriptura vs Ecclesia” ( 2025-04-27 )

講員 Speaker: Pastor Iain Davis, English Sermons 系列 series

Please feel free to download the bulletin PDF or use another cell phone to read the sermon outline, news and prayer items.

CHAIRMAN: PASTOR ANDY TSE
SPEAKER: PASTOR IAIN DAVIS
SCRIPTURES: 2 Timothy 3:14-17

Sermon Notes:

Catholic Teaching:

  1. Scripture is an authority in the life of the believer, but not the only authority
  2. Sola Scriptura is not a biblical teaching
  3. Jesus and Paul do not insist on the disciples writing down their words, but to remember their oral tradition
  4. The Church possesses the authority to interpret what Scripture means properly

What we believe:

  1. Scripture is our final authority in all matters of faith; human interpretation can be useful, but it is not authoritative.
  2. The Principles of Sola Scriptura are documented in Scripture itself and in the writings of the church fathers that Catholics would look to as possessing divine inspiration
  3. Sola Scriptura begins once the process of special revelation has ended, once there is a scripture to look back to.
  4. God has a purpose in giving us the Scriptures, so that we might be equipped for every good work.
