SCRIPTURES: 1 SAMUEL 1:9-18

Sermon Notes:

Introduction on Hannah and her deep desire for a child

Q When someone has a deep desire or longing, what thing(s) do they turn to fulfill those needs?
Q. Personal: What deep desires do you have that are not met yet? Will you turn to God?

POINT #1 Hannah’s Persistent Prayer: Turning to God in Desperation (1:9-13)

Q. Is prayer the only way to meet your needs?
Q. How long do you pray? If you just ask God enough, will he say yes?
Q. How is prayer like surrendering to God?
Q. I Samuel 1:10 says, Hannah wept with bitterness of soul and prayed to the Lord. How can being emotional affect someone’s prayer life? (in a positive way, and negative way)?

POINT #2 Hannah’s Faith and Promise (Vow) Prayer? (1:10-11)

Q. How was Hannah’s vow to God a sign of faith?
Q. How important is it to keep a promise? What about a promise to God?
Q. Have you ever made a deal with God? Can we make deals with God?
Q. When we fail to follow through with a promise to ourselves or God, how important is confession and forgiveness?

POINT #3 Hannah is Faithful to God (1:17-28)

Q. God is always faithful, how does this fact help us walk faithfully?
Q. How did faith and sacrifice work together for Hannah?
Q. What can we do to stay faithful? What things can we include in our lives to help us remain faithful to God? (i.e. mentor, accountability, etc.)
Q. What do you think God wants us to learn from the passage about Hannah?

Offering:

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

- Malachi 3:10 (NIV)

PGC needs sufficient capital every year for development of church ministries. Encourage b/s to make financial offering based on bible's teaching  & God's provision.
