Micah 3 (ESV)

⁹ Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob
and rulers of the house of Israel,
who detest justice
and make crooked all that is straight,
¹⁰ who build Zion with blood
and Jerusalem with iniquity.
¹¹ Its heads give judgment for a bribe;
its priests teach for a price;
its prophets practice divination for money;
yet they lean on the Lord and say,
“Is not the Lord in the midst of us?
No disaster shall come upon us.”
¹² Therefore because of you
Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.

REFLECTION:

• The kingdom of Judah is trapped in sin, and the leaders bear great responsibilities (9). They take money as their goal and lose the meaning of serving God. Not only do they work for money, but they also judge randomly based on the amount (11). What is even more shameful is that they prophesy in the name of God while they have not received God’s enlightenment. Therefore, the kingdom of Judah will face an unprecedented and unimaginable catastrophe. The purpose is to let people know the wrath and judgment of God over all these things. This prophecy issued by the prophet Micah was later quoted by the prophet Jeremiah (see Jeremiah 26:18).
• Chapter 1 verse 6 prophesies that Jerusalem will suffer like Samaria. This prophecy was fulfilled when Jerusalem was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar coming to attack the city in 586 BC (see 2 Kings 25). Micah condemns the corrupt leaders, but this is not to say that the people are blameless (12). Similarly, instead of turning to God and seeking righteousness, they condoned corruption.

Dear God, please help me reflect on whether I act in accordance with the truth in my ministry, and whether I have become a stumbling block for others or lead others astray.
